Blur 'legend' joins EastEnders
Actor Phil Daniels is set to join the cast of Eastenders next year.

Best known for his role in the iconic mod movie Quadrophenia, Daniels found a new generation of fans during the Britpop years when he teamed up with Blur to provide vocals for ‘Parklife’.

He has now been signed up by the BBC in their efforts to revive the fortunes of the flagging soap.

He will play Kevin Wicks, described by sources as a ‘good hearted family man’.

Daniels said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge of doing some quality mainstream TV.”

Eastenders Executive Producer Kate Harwood added: “Phil Daniels is an extraordinary talent. It is a real coup to have him join the show.”

Last week, rival ITV soap Coronation Street featured a guest appearance by Status Quo.

They will return next month to play at the wedding of Les and Cilla Battersby, and it was revealed today that the character Candice Stowe will leave the series when she is employed by the band as their personal hairdresser.
