Blur bassist Alex James is to be part of the Costa Book Awards judging panel.

He will head up a panel with BBC news presenter Emily Maitlis for the awards which were formerly the Whitbread Prize, reports BBC News.

The panel will be headed by Joanna Trollope, actress Helen Lederer and GQ editor Dylan Jones will take part in the deliberations.

The recipients will be announced in January, with an overall winner named on January 22.

The winner in each category will get £5,000 but the main prize will get £25,000.

Last year author Stef Penney won the award for ’The Tenderness Of Wolves’.
