Rock star-turned-cheesemaker does his bit

Former Blur bassist Alex James has been appointed a member of the selection committee for this year’s Real Food Festival.

James will be handpicking artisans and farmers to exhibit at the event, to be held at London’s Earl’s Court between April 24 and 27.

Since the release of Blur’s last album, 'Think Tank', in 2003, the bassist has been building up his cheese-making business in the Cotswolds.

James’ flagship cheese, Little Wallop, has received several awards and accolades, including a silver medal at the prestigious 2007 British Cheese Awards.

The Shockwaves NME Awards 2008 are coming soon – and it’s time to have your say. Vote now by heading to NME.COM/awardsvote and you could win VIP tickets to the ceremony, which takes place in London on February 28.
