Damon Albarn: 'Blur reunion is possible'

Albarn scuppers rumours he is preventing reunion

Damon Albarn has said that a Blur reunion could be possible in the future – despite rumours suggesting that it was he who was holding back a possible reformation.

Last month Graham Coxon responded to comments by Albarn, after the frontman suggested that Blur were "over".

However, Albarn has since told BBC Newsbeat that far from being "over", a reunion could be on the cards.

"It's very possible I'll go back to Blur," he said, "it really is very possible."

Albarn went on to say that he had smoothed things over with Coxon. "Graham and I have been hanging out together a bit," he said. "We had lunch the other day. He's great, it's fantastic to get my old friend back. So it's good, but I can't really say any more than that."

In July, bassist Alex James revealed that Blur were offered a Glastonbury 2008 headline and suggested that Albarn scuppered their chances of accepting.

Albarn though warned not to expect a reunion soon, explaining that he his currently working on a new Gorillaz record.

"I'm halfway through the next Gorillaz album at the minute, That's going to be interesting and different again," he said. "This next time around there will be a lot going on in it."

Damon Albarn meanwhile is staging his opera 'Monkey: A Journey To The West' in London later this month.

I believe it when it happens. As much as I love blur, Its been the same story for the last 3 years about them reforming. Blur were one of the best british bands when all 4 of them were together, Even Noel Gallagher has admitted to be a fan of them now.

I'm waiting for them, they'll surely conquer the music world in '09. Hail BLUR hail.

On - off - on - off - on... perhaps they should just shut up and let us know when they've made their minds up. Everyone will be bored stupid before they've played a note. They were an great live band - be good to see them again...

I'd love to see them reform but it kind of seems like they're jumping on the bandwagon

I would think those who make inane comments (Caponee) are dickless incompetants who support Oasis and have only heard Country House and Stereotypes. I hate to restart the old Blur/Oasis argument, but Blur were leagues ahead of Oasis, discovering new ground, changing direction where Oasis churned out the same thing over and over again. A Blur reunion will happen in time, I want it to happen as much as these people in the posts above me (with the exception of Capussee), and below me too, probably. It's just a case of when and where. These things generally are not rushed with Graham and Damon, so I guess we'll just have t wait and see.

I'm more intrested in the Kinks (Or Led Zepp) reunion to be honest. Also to say Blur are better than Oasis is like saying John McCain is better than Barack Obama!!

hope the reunion does happen sooner rather than later, even if they dont release any new material be great to see them live epecially for people like me who were too young first time round

I think it's important that Blur get together again, even if it's just to bring an end to things and give fans who've loved them over the years another chance to see them live. Although I also think that judging by recent output by both Albarn and Coxon they're still capable of writing some amazing music together. Let's just hope it happens sooner rather than later, before Alex gets too fat from all the cheese.

Another classic comment there from Soundedd with 'The worst metaphor of 2009'. The only thing I agree with him on is the Led Zep reunion- its going to be AMAZING with a new singer. (Irony overload)

well BLUR dont need the money so if they got back together it would be to make new music, im sure of it. Damon is stupidly successfull and the other guys are doing alright, i would like to hear Graham playing his guitar while Damon warbles....they are a great band, ive loved them since they stopped being baggy and made MODERN LIFE....n

Soundedd, to say that Oasis are better than Blur is like saying that you are totally dillusional. I hope that Blur reform, but only when their hearts are in it. It's not a matter of when, but if they do reform, I'm confident they'll bring out an amazing piece of work, as they have consistantly done in the past. Caru chi Blur x

I am a massive, massive Blur fan and have seen them play live plenty of times, I grew up with them, Leisure to Think Tank is the soundtrack of mine, and many others, life. They are firmly held in my heart as, in my opinion, the best band of all time. But a big part of me wouldn't want to see a reunion. The memories I have and what Blur mean to their fans are firmly in place. It would be so good to just leave it there. It's not as if the members of the band have been lost forever, Coxon and Albarn inparticular are still massively popular, influentual and supercool. For once, let's just keep the memories of a great time and a great band safe, please.

It would be the greatest reunion in the 2000's, given it was the best music in the 90's. I believe they still have a lot to say, hopefully.

Never thought Damon would be able to resist standing on stage and performing those songs again. How can you write 'This Is A Low' and not want to sing it to the world?! It's not nostalgia, it's just genius.
