Blur set to release new compilation

Double CD spans band's 'Midlife'

Blur are set to release a new compilation to coincide with their summer comeback shows.

The double CD 'Midlife: A Beginners Guide To Blur' is released on June 15, and features 25 tracks.

Apparently it has been aimed at those who missed the band first time around, before their recent reformation, with a statement explaining that "the collection has been designed as an introduction for those who might have missed out on Blur's prolific recording career".

The tracklisting is:

CD1
'Beetlebum'
'Girls & Boys'
'For Tomorrow'
'Coffee & TV'
'Out Of Time'
'Blue Jeans'
'Song 2'
'Bugman'
'He Thought Of Cars'
'Death Of A Party'
'The Universal'
'Sing'
'This Is A Low'

CD2
'Tender'
'She's So High'
'Chemical World'
'Good Song'
'Parklife'
'Advert'
'Popscene'
'Stereotypes'
'Trimm Trabb'
'Badhead'
'Strange News From Another Star'
Battery In Your Leg'

It will be the band's first compilation since 2000's 'The Best Of Blur'.

It's a bit of a rank cash in but the tracklisting is pretty awesome. No M.O.R or turn it up though.

I think this is a good intro to Blur. Nice to see Popscene finally on an album and not just the limited edition hard to find version of Modern Life... :o)

No Country House or Charmless Man?? Will be a bit devastated if Charmless man doesn't make their setlist!!

It is a great tracklisting, hit singles mixed in with some key album tracks like 'Strange news' 'Advert' and 'Battery.' It's got Popscene on it, marking the first release in the UK for that track since 1992, meaning that it changes for quite a lot even now. And finally, what is also good, is that it is not simply 2000's the Best Of Blur with one or two singles tacked on. Good stuff.

Choooo Choooo! Is that the gravy train pulling into town? Surely people who want to familiarise themselves with Blur could have bought the greatest hits cd?But I agree with Constant Supply, hopefully the inclusion of some less well-known stuff here will mean it's due to appear in the hyde park setlists.

Despite having already own all the albums, and singles from the start to 1999, I think I'll still be tempted to buy it.

Sounds a little like a ploy for money... suppose thats ok now though... Well it would be if they added to the end, agreeing with shroom bloke that it is one of the best dark love songs of our time and for me topped off blur as being a band with no end to talent..... Damons voice in that song is so sincere and yetsster at the same time, if they want vast public interest they should have wacked it on.... Also why would they put on country and charmless when everyone already knows those songs any way, if the point is 'introducing the band'!!

Like Radiohead, Blur renamed themselves at the suggestion of their record label. They started out as Circus, before a line-up change encouraged them to switch to Seymour. After being signed to Food Records, label boss Andy Ross drew up a list of suggested names. Blur was one, Whirlpool was another.
