Blur will release a new song as a limited edition seven-inch vinyl single for this year's Record Store Day, which takes place on April 17.

Details of the track, including the title, will be announced nearer the release.

The songs, which were recorded two weeks ago, follows the band's reunion shows last summer, and is their first new release since 2003 single 'Good Song'.

"We want independent record store to continue, they're an important part of our musical culture," frontman Damon Albarn said. "Music is a simple way for Blur to show our support and we hope people like it."

The new Blur release is part of a series of limited edition seven-inch singles being released by the band's label to mark the day, with The Beatles, Hot Chip and Lily Allen also among EMI's releases which are limited to 1000 copies each.

Record Store Day takes place annually to promote independent record shops, and sees a number limited edition releases being sold in stores around the country.
