Blur drummer Dave Rowntree has provided three remixes for ‘Milk’, the new single by Cheltenham-based folk trio The Cadbury Sisters.

Rowntree’s remixes – called ‘Long Remix’, ‘Short Remix’ and ‘Instrumental Remix’ – are the first time he has remixed for anyone apart from Blur. The remixes can be heard here. His only previous remix was of Blur’s song ‘Bugman’, when all four of the band remixed the track as the B-Sides for their 1999 single ‘Coffee + TV’.

It’s thought Rowntree agreed to remix The Cadbury Sisters partly because of the confectionery link in their surnames – Rowntree, which was bought by Nestle in 1988, is a rival manufacturer of Cadbury. The Cadbury Sisters are direct descendants of John Cadbury, who founded the firm in Birmingham in 1824. So too is Joel Cadbury, singer with 2000s band South and a regular guest vocalist with UNKLE.

Rowntree has many roles away from music. He is a trained solicitor, working for London firm Kingsley Napley, and directed two series of animated Channel 4 sitcom Empire Square. He also unsuccessfully stood for the Labour Party at the Cities Of London And Westmister constituency in the 2010 general election, losing to the Conservative Party. Rowntree is a patron of Amicus, a charity providing legal support for Death Row prisoners in America.

Blur haven’t played live since 2013, but Damon Albarn recently told NME he is certain the band will play live again in the future.
