DYLAN PROVIDES A LITTLE VARIETY

Bob Dylan is to star in an hour-long TV special on the American network HBO.

The show will be a variety-like special featuring Dylan songs and comedy skits. It has written for Dylan by former 'Seinfeld' writer/producer Larry Charles.

US entertainment industry magazine the Hollywood Reporter reports Charles saying: "It's Bob Dylan doing a TV show. Like Bob Dylan himself, it will be unpredictable, unsettling, distinctive, original and entertaining all at the same time. You'll walk away feeling satisfied."

At present no broadcast date has been set, and the tracks Dylan will perform have yet to be finalised.

Dylan recently unveiled his first new material since 1997's 'Time Out Of Mind' album. The track, 'Things Have Changed', features on the soundtrack to 'The Wonder Boys', the Michael Douglas-starring film directed by Curtis Hanson, who has previously directed 'LA Confidential'.

HBO has made its reputation in the US for backing left of centre shows that may not have been commissioned by other networks. The award-winning series 'The Sopranos' is a recent hit.
