Bob Dylan is set to be presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by US leader Barack Obama.

The award is the highest honour a civilian can gain and is the US equivalent of a knighthood. In the past it has been given to the likes of Mother Teresa and Stephen Hawking. The award giving ceremony will take place this spring, reports Holy Moly. Of this year's gongs, Obama said:

These extraordinary honorees come from different backgrounds and different walks of life, but each of them has made a lasting contribution to the life of our Nation. They've challenged us, they've inspired us, and they've made the world a better place. I look forward to recognising them with this award.

Meanwhile, Bob Dylan's seminal 1975 album 'Blood On The Tracks' is set to be turned into a film. The rights to the LP have been purchased by Brazilian company RT Features, who are now planning to adapt it into an English-speaking flick and are on the lookout for a director to helm the project.

It was reported earlier this year that Bob Dylan is recording a new studio album, with the singer reportedly working on material at a studio in Los Angeles owned by US singer-songwriter Jackson Browne. His last LP, the festive-themed 'Christmas In The Heart', was released in 2009.

As well as playing The Hop Farm festival in Kent (June 29-July 1), Bob Dylan is set to headline this summer's Benicassim festival. The folk legend joins The Stone Roses, Florence And The Machine and At The Drive-In in headlining the event in Spain. The festival runs from July 12-15 this summer. Four-day tickets for Benicassim, priced at €165, are available from Fiberfib.com.
