Michael Hutchence's mother PATRICIA GLASSOP has declared that she will fight late Tube presenter PAULA YATES's ex-husband BOB GELDOF for custody of her granddaughter.

Ms Yates, who died on Sunday (September 17) after what is thought to have been an accidental overdose of drink and drugs, left behind her four-year-old daughter to the late INXS frontman, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily. Hutchence died in 1997.

Geldof, who has custody of his three daughters from his marriage to Ms Yates - Peaches, 10, Pixie, seven, and Fifi Trixibelle, 17 - has been granted interim care of Tiger.

But according to reports in the UK press today, Hutchence's mother says she will fight any move by Geldof to adopt Tiger, and is backing her daughter Tina, who lives in California, in her bid to win custody. Patricia Glassop publicly blamed Ms Yates for her son's death in an outburst at his funeral.

Hutchence's father, Kell, however, has stated that he believes Tiger should stay with her sisters, and has expressed his support for Geldof.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem yesterday on Ms Yates was inconclusive, and investigators are awaiting the results of further tests before the circumstances surrounding her death are established.
