The Boomtown Rats reunite for Isle Of Wight festival

Band join The Killers, The Stone Roses and Bon Jovi on line-up

Bob Geldof has reformed his band The Boomtown Rats, and announced a performance at this year’s Isle Of Wight festival.

The Boomtown Rats split in 1986 after releasing six albums including 1979’s ‘The Fine Art Of Surfacing’, which included the band’s most famous song, the 1979 UK Number One hit ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’. They also topped the UK singles chart with ‘Rat Trap’ a year earlier.

The band will perform at the Isle Of Wight festival on a bill which also includes headliners The Killers, Bon Jovi and The Stone Roses. Speaking about the reunion, Geldof said: “I’ve always fancied playing the Isle of Wight Festival ever since I hitched there in the good/bad days when I was a kid.”

John Giddings, the festival’s promoter, expressed his delight at convincing the group to reform for his festival, stating: “It’s great that they have chosen the Isle of Wight Festival as their reunion. Our audience will love them, their catalogue is classic.”

Other acts already announced for the festival, which will take place at Seaclose Park between June 13-16 include Paul Weller, The Maccabees, Jake Bugg, Bloc Party, Palma Violets, Paloma Faith, Ellie Goulding, Blondie, I Am Kloot, Kodaline and Willy Mason.
