Bobby Brown sentenced to 55 days in jail
The singer was arrested last October for driving under the influence of alcohol
Bobby Brown has been sentenced to 55 days in jail following his arrest last year for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Brown pleaded no contest to the charges. As well as the prison sentence, the R&B singer was put on informal probation for four and a half years and has been instructed to complete a year-and-a-half long alcohol treatment course, writes the Hollywood Reporter.
The singer has been ordered to pay $800 in fines and will now have a breathalyser type device fitted to his car's dashboard, which will check his blood alcohol levels every time he drives and stall the engine if the level is over the legal limit.
The singer, ex-husband of the late Whitney Houston, was stopped by police after driving erratically and then failed an alcohol test in October last year.
Brown was previously arrested on the same charge in March and later checked into rehab. He entered the facility during a break from touring with his band New Edition and shortly after he had returned from his honeymoon with his new wife and manager, Alicia Etheridge-Brown.
In May of last year, Brown hit back at claims that he was responsible for the drug addiction of Whitney Houston. She died on February 11, 2012 at the age of 48, after she was discovered underwater and unconscious in a bath in a hotel in Beverly Hills. A coroner later revealed the cause of death as drowning combined with heart disease and cocaine use.
Bobby Brown released his latest studio album 'The Masterpiece' in June 2012.
