Bombay Bicycle Club cover Rufus Wainwright's dad at Glastonbury

The band play an acoustic gig

North London band Bombay Bicycle Club played a lunchtime acoustic set in the Guardian Lounge on the opening day of the Glastonbury festival (June 26).

The band, who came onstage at 12.05pm, played a cover version of Loudon Wainwright III’s ‘Motel Blues’ as well as forthcoming single ‘Dust On The Ground’, which is out on Monday (June 29).

The band opened with ‘16’, which saw drummer Suren de Saram playing along on bongos at the back of the stage, whilst the rest of the group were lined up at the front sitting down.

Playing ‘The Hill’, the crowd, who were all seated on the ground, began spontaneously clapping along. After the song guitarist Jamie MacColl and bassist Ed Nash stood up and walked offstage, thinking the set was over, only to be called back by frontman Jack Steadman saying: “Where are you going? We’ve got one more song!” before playing ‘You Already Know’.

The gig is the first of three for the band at the festival. They play The Park stage tomorrow and The Queen' Head on Sunday.
