Boy George to begin community service

Singer to start litter picking duty

Boy George to begin community service

Boy George began his community service today (August 14).

The singer reported to New York’s Sanitation Department’s District 3 and began picking up litter.

Department spokesman Vito Turso told The New York Daily News: “A lot of tourist traffic means a lot of street litter. This is the epitome of community service. It’s not like he’s going to be working in an air-conditioned office.”

George told the assembled media: "This is supposed to be making me humble. Let me do this. I just want to do my job."

As previously reported by NME.COM, the singer was ordered earlier this year to complete the five days of community service which he was sentenced to after falsely reporting a burglary.

When asked if he minded being a cleaner, the singer told reporters at his sentencing: “I’ve always been a scrubber.”
