Pending London trial halts tour plans

Boy George has been forced to cancel his upcoming tour of the US after being denied a visa to enter the country.

The singer was set to perform in the US for the first time in ten years, and had scheduled a show at the City of New York Department of Sanitation’s annual Family Day on August 17, to thank the DSNY for their kindness towards him during his community service in 2006.

The visa application was rejected because George is facing trial in London in November for allegedly imprisoning a male escort.

A statement from his publicist reads:

George is astounded at the decision and is having lawyers here in the States look at it in the hope that someone will change their mind. George has not been convicted of anything in London and there is a presumption in the Western World of innocence until proven guilty.”

The singer was given unconditional bail in the UK which allows him to travel anywhere in the world, and he is requesting that the US authorities reconsider their decision.
