NME New Music Tour: Line-up revealed

Boy Kill Boy lead the way on May tour

NME New Music Tour: Line-up revealed
Bands for the NME New Music Tour 2006 have been confirmed with Boy Kill Boy, The Automatic, iForward, Russia! and The Long Blondes signing-up for the jaunt.

With the annual trek previously introducing fresh talent like Maximo Park and The Cribs, the four bands are looking forward to the May tour with great anticipation.

“It’s fucking great to be on the tour we’re all made up about it,” explained Chris Peck of headliners Boy Kill Boy. "It should be a good atmosphere, it’s going to be wicked.”

Slotting in beneath them on the bill, Welsh whiz kids The Automatic added that they were looking forward to the community of hitting the road with three other bands.

“We’re looking forward to playing with iForward, Russia!," said singer Rob Hawkin. I’ll definitely wear one of their trademark (exclamation mark) T-shirts, if I can get a free one! They can have one of ours in exchange.”

iForward, Russia! mainman Whiskas is similarly keen. “We said ‘Hi’ to The Automatic when we played with them,” he said. “But I’m intrigued with them to be honest.”

Having received the Phillip Hall Radar Award at the recent ShockWaves NME Awards, openers The Long Blondes are looking to introduce themselves to a wider audience.

“We’ve never done a big tour! At the moment we’re juggling our gigs around work but hopefully that won’t be the case come May,” explained frontwoman Kate Jackson.

However with the tour kicking off at Bristol University on May 6, The Long Blondes will be fashionably late, missing the first three dates, but fortunately the excellent Howling Bells will be stepping into the breach.

“It’s nice to be rewarded with a bigger stage,” said singer Juanita Stein.
