White brothers do double duty with Electric Soft Parade

Brakes and Electric Soft Parade won over a packed house at Club NME Los Angeles with Fred Perry Subculture last night (May 30).

Headliners Brakes (known as BrakesBrakesBrakes in the US) charmed the crowd and whipped audience members into a dance frenzy with their pop-punk anthems and country-tinged numbers.

"I hope you don't mind a limey band singing about your vice president," said frontman Eamon Hamilton before the band launched into the angry 10-second tirade 'Cheney'.

The Brighton four-piece played a few covers during their set, including Camper Van Beethoven's 'We Saw Jerry's Daughter', and 'Jackson', made famous by Johnny and June Carter Cash.

Brakes drummer and guitarist Alex and Tom White did double duty last night, performing an opening set with their other band, Electric Soft Parade. They played several tracks from their most recent album, 'No Need To Be Downhearted'.

"It's good that we've got another set because I've got a lot of energy and if that were it, I'd be pissed off," Tom White told NME.COM between sets.

"It's a pleasure to play Club NME in Los Angeles," added his brother Alex White. "We do Club NME in the UK and it's a really different vibe. But we like being here -- it's a good audience."

Also on the bill were Brooklyn indie rockers Pela. Resident DJs spun tunes throughout the night.

Electric Soft Parade played:

'Silent To The Dark'
'A Beating Heart'
'Cold World'
'Lose Your Frown'
'Have You Ever Felt Like It's Too Late?'
'If That's The Case, Then I Don't Know'
'Everybody Wants'

Brakes played:

'Hi How Are You'
'Ring A Ding Ding'
'Heard About Your Band'
'Pick Up The Phone'
'I Can't Stand To Stand'
'All Night Disco Party
''On Your Side'
'Cease And Desist'
'Hold Me In The River'
'Beatific Visions'
'We Saw Jerry's Daughter'
'What's In It For Me'
'Spring Chicken'
'Porcupine Or Pineapple'
'The Most Fun'
'NY Pie'
'Space Chuffes'
'Noah Return'

Club NME with Fred Perry takes place at Spaceland in the Silver Lake neighbourhood of Los Angeles every Wednesday night.

Next Wednesday (June 6), Flash Hawk Parlor Ensemble featuring Chris Funk and Jenny Conlee of The Decemberists are set to headline Club NME LA with Fred Perry Subculture.
