this award was like Radiohead vs the 15 dullest men and music and the 5 fittest. Elbow? Better than Radiohead? Honestly, does anybody actually believe that - all sympathy for how long it took Elbow to achieve anything aside?

I'll believe it. Speaking as somebody who owns everything they've put out, Radiohead is a fantastic band, but they've been coasting these past few years. In Rainbows was wank, a half-assed collection of poorly produced song-sketches pitched halfway between 'boring' and 'irritating'. It's like Renoir deciding that stick figures are the future and expecting everybody to play along.Yeah, The Seldom Seen Kid is uneven and has a few clunkers junking up the tracklist. But in terms of heart and songcraft, it kicks the piss out of Radiohead's recent output. This was a well-deserved win considering the field.
