Courtney Love presents Ellie Goulding with Critics' Choice prize at Brit Awards 2010
Goulding picks up newcomers prize at the London ceremony and is praised by Love
Hereford-born Goulding beat the likes of Delphic and Marina And The Diamonds to the award, which was last year won by Florence And The Machine.
Referencing the previous winners of the Critics' Choice award in her introduction speech, Love said: "In the past this award has been given to some very talented young women – Adele, Florence And The Machine – and this year is no different."
She then welcomed Goulding onto the stage, where the newcomer made a short speech thanking her record label and admitting how unprepared for the gong she was.
"Well, this is mental," she said. "I just wanna say thank you so much to the critics who gave me this award."
The award was voted for by a panel of critics and was announced earlier this year.
