Britney Spears granted extended visitation rights with sons

Britney Spears was granted expanded visitation rights with her two young sons during a child custody hearing in Los Angeles today (May 6).

The pop star's ex-husband Kevin Federline has had full custody of their sons since January, when Spears was taken by police to UCLA Medical Center after she refused to relinquish one of the boys to Federline's bodyguard.

Today, Federline's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, said that the longer visits are "recognition of the progress that has been made, a progress in structure and stability."

Kaplan said that Federline would retain custody of 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James, but that Spears would be allowed to see them for longer periods, reports the Associated Press.

Both Spears and Federline were present in court today. Spears was dressed conservatively in a brown polka-dot dress and white sweater, while Federline wore a beige pinstriped suit.

Spears has recently been under under conservatorship of her father, who has been in charge of her personal and financial affairs under a court order issued earlier this year. Since then, she has reportedly cleaned up her act and maintained a lower public profile than in previous months.
