Pop star's attorney seeks to dismiss the case once again

Britney Spears' attorney has filed a petition on her behalf asking that the upcoming trial on her driving-without-a-license charge be postponed or dismissed.

Attorney J Michael Flanagan has made repeated requests for the dismissal of the case, arguing that the pop star should only be required to pay a $10 fine and not face criminal charges, but the requests have been denied.

Now he is asking the Los Angeles Superior Court to stay the case, alleging that she is "unable to meaningfully participate in her defence because of her conservatorship", reports the Associated Press.

He is also asking an appellate judge to order the superior court judge to dismiss the case.

Spears is due to appear in court in October to face misdemeanour charges of driving without a valid California license stemming from an incident in which she hit a parked car in August 2007.
