Britney Spears' former manager Sam Lufti has asked the Los Angeles Supreme Court to order a psychiatric evaluation of the singer.

Lufti, who was fired from his role with Spears in 2008, is pursuing a defamation lawsuit against her mother Lynne Spears. The singer's mum claimed in her 2008 book Through The Storm that he used to manipulate her by secretly drugging her and cutting off her channels of communication, reports Rolling Stone.

Although the singer's parents are claiming that she is mentally incapable of testifying in the trial, Lufti has cited the interviews she gave promote her new album Femme Fatale, which was released earlier this year, as proof that she'd be capable of giving deposition in court.

Earlier this year Spears and her father were sued for over $10 million (£6.1 million) by the company who helped them secure the singer's fragrance deal. Her former bodyguard Fernando Flores, meanwhile, filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against her in 2010.
