Britney Spears and Demi Lovato have both been confirmed as judges for the new series of the US version of The X Factor.

The singers replace the departing Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul, who confirmed at the end of the show's last series that they will not be taking part in the new Stateside series of The X Factor. Simon Cowell and Epic Records boss LA Reid will continue in their roles as judges on the show.

Spears will reportedly pocket a whopping $15 million (£9.3 million) for just one series, with former Disney star Lovato's pay cheque still shrouded in mystery.

Speaking about her new role, Spears said: "I couldn't be more excited to join The X Factor judging panel. I'm a huge fan of the show and now I get to be a part of the action. Simon and LA better watch out!"

Lovato added: "I'm so thrilled to join this legendary group of judges. To be able to spend each week with Simon, LA and Britney watching the best that America has to offer is truly a dream come true."

Simon Cowell also spoke about why he'd chosen the pair, adding: "I'm absolutely delighted Britney and Demi are joining us. Britney remains one of the biggest stars in the world, she's talented, fascinating - and I believe she knows exactly how to spot The X Factor. "

He continued: "Demi's had an amazing career in music, TV and film for someone her age. She's young, confident, and enthusiastic. I think it's really important that she speaks to our younger audience. The new panel will be dynamic and will work really well with the changes we are making to the show."

The X Factor will return to US screens later this year.
