Britney Spears is reportedly on the verge of signing up for a Las Vegas residency in a two-year deal worth £62m.

It is reported that Britney is close to agreeing terms on a deal which will see her performing 80 shows a year at Caesers Palace, earning around £625,000 per night. According to The Mirror, Britney will sign on for an initial period of one year with a further 12 months to follow if successful. Tickets to see Spears in Las Vegas would cost around £400 and the singer would be given a penthouse apartment as part of her deal. It is believed Spears' recent split from manager/boyfriend Jason Trawick will enable the deal to go ahead.

"This offer has been on the table for some time now and is something Britney has always wanted to do," a source told the paper.

"However, she had commitments on the US X Factor and Jason, her manager, was reluctant to over-work her with a residency. Now she and Jason have split, her new team have put everything into fast-forward, and personal terms have been agreed. It's simply a matter of dotting the 'i's and crossing the 't's now."

It is also thought that Britney's departure from The X Factor USA will pave the way for a new career path in Las Vegas, traditionally a place to which entertainers can retire. Celine Dion and Elton John have both taken residencies in America's gaudy gambling capital.

Britney Spears is currently Number One in the UK Singles Chart alongside will.i.am with their single 'Scream and Shout'. The song managed to hold off competition from David Bowie's 'Where Are We Now?' in the race for Number One, Bowie was only able to chart at Number Six.
