Britney Spears' new album 'Britney Jean' has only managed to chart at Number 19 in this week's Official Albums Chart midweek update.

Spears' eighth studio album is behind the current Number One album from One Direction, 'Midnight Memories', which is likely to stay there for a second week. 'Britney Jean' features the single 'Work Bitch', which charted at Number Seven upon its release earlier this year. The winner of this week's chart battle is revealed on BBC Radio 1 this Sunday (December 1).

Official Chart Company data revealed that the X Factor boyband's latest album 'Midnight Memories' sold more than 237,000 copies during its first week on sale having been released on November 25, beating Daft Punk's record of the fastest selling album of 2013 to date. The group are currently fending off competition from Robbie Williams, Gary Barlow and Olly Murs in the Top Five as well as this week's highest new entry, 'A Musical Affair' by Il Divo.

Elsewhere in the Official Album Chart there are new entries from Rebecca Ferguson (6), Leona Lewis (17), Richard And Adam (25) and Muse (30).

Meanwhile, in the Official Single Chart at today's (December 4) midweek stage, it looks like Lily Allen will return to Number One with her cover of Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know'. The song, as heard on John Lewis' Christmas advertising campaign, is ahead of the current Number One, Calvin Harris's 'Under Control', a collaboration with Alesso and Theo Hutchcraft of Hurts.

Other new entries at this week's midweek stage include All About She (11), James Arthur (12), Rebecca Ferguson (14), Justin Bieber (21) and Leona Lewis (32).
