Britney Spears' producer defends singer over leaked out-of-tune vocal

Spears' vocals were a warm-up exercise, says William Orbit

Britney Spears' producer defends singer over leaked out-of-tune vocal
Britney Spears has been defended by her producer William Orbit over a leaked audio clip of her appearing to show her singing her track ‘Alien’ out of tune.

The clip, which can be heard below, was recorded during the sessions for Spears’ 2013 album ‘Britney Jean’, which Orbit produced with Sebastian Ingrosso, will.i.am and David Guetta. It has gone viral after it purported to show how Spears sings without the benefit of Autotune.

In a posting on his Facebook page, Orbit said Spears’ vocals were a warm-up vocal practice standard among singers. “Warming up is essential if you’re a pro, as it is with a runner doing stretches” wrote Orbit. “It takes a while to do properly.”

Orbit, who has also produced Blur and Madonna, said that the leak was done “in a spirit of unkindness”, before calling Spears “beyond stellar”.

In September 2013, Spears’ manager Larry Reynolds admitted that the singer does mime during parts of her concerts but that she sings live during the shows “where humanly possible”.
