E Street Band's Little Steven to launch radio show in the UK
Little Steven's Underground Garage radio show is set to launch in the UK on February 9, bringing his hugely popular syndicated rock programme to British listeners after six years.

E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt said that he is very excited to launch his show in the UK on the anniversary of the day The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964, and will mark the occasion on his show.

"I was sitting in my room with the family watching Ed Sullivan and on came The Beatles and changed the world," Van Zandt told NME.COM. "They were extraordinary, alien, sophisticated. They opened up a new world you could fantasise about participating in."

The show, which "plays music from all 60 years of rock and roll back to the beginning with Little Richard and Bo Diddley", will be broadcast in the UK on Absolute Radio each week. "The British Invasion is the centrepoint of our format," he said. "The Yardbirds, The Kinks, The Who, Herman's Hermits -- there was just one great band after another."

Van Zandt admitted that although he idolised The Beatles as a kid, it was The Rolling Stones that made him believe he could be a rock star too. "The Rolling Stones were kind of raggedy. Their harmonies and haircuts weren't quite as perfect (as The Beatles) so they made it look accessible."

Van Zandt also pointed out that Little Steven's Underground Garage is "the only American show to be playing Kaiser Chiefs, Primal Scream and The Pigeon Detectives."

Meanwhile, Van Zandt will perform at the Super Bowl this Sunday with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band. When asked how he felt to be playing at the massive event, he said, "This is as big as it gets. We play stadium-size venues regularly, so we should be all right. It's fun to be able to broadcast something to a billion people with a new record out. It's certainly convenient!"
