Bloomberg performs re-written version of ‘Born to Run’
New York mayor Michael Bloomberg performed a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born to Run’ at his annual staff Christmas party at Gracie Mansion last week (December 7).
In response to the persistent rumours that he will run for President of the United States, the New York Times reports that Bloomberg took to the stage wearing a T-shirt, jeans, mullet wig and bandana, back by senior members of his staff ‘playing’ inflatable musical instruments.
Changing the lyrics, the mayor sung: "I know I said this job I’d keep/But (Deputy Mayor Kevin) Sheekey said, ‘Don’t be cheap/Only cost you half a bill-ion/’Cause folks like us, Baby, we were born to run"
The mayor performed the song under the name Mike Bloomsteen And The Bullpen Band.
