Bruce Springsteen makes surprise appearance with Gaslight Anthem at Glastonbury Bruce Springsteen Tickets

'The Boss' plays 'The '59 Sound' with New Jersey band

Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance on the John Peel Stage at Glastonbury this evening (June 27) joining The Gaslight Anthem onstage.

Three songs into the set, frontman Brian Fallon told the crowd to be quiet before introducing the legend, who is due to headline the Pyramid Stage tonight.

"I think I can hear the sound of my hometown," he quipped, as Springsteen appeared brandishing a guitar and wearing sunglasses to the sound of massive cheers from the crowd, some of whom started running towards the stage.

To shouts of "Bruuuccce", the grinning singer and guitarist started playing along with the band to their 2008 single 'The '59 Sound', playing a guitar solo towards the end of the song.

Springsteen, dressed in black, shared a microphone with fellow New Jersey resident Fallon as they sang the chorus together before he left the stage to huge applause.

Fallon's rock heroes were already on his mind before the surprise hook-up, as he told the crowd: "A big hero of mine, Joe Strummer, he loved this place, so I wanted to come and see it. It's pretty cool that you guys can all come together. I don't see anyone fighting here."

The Gaslight Anthem are playing support to Springsteen tomorrow (June 28) at the Hyde Park Calling festival in London, along with James Morrison and the Dave Matthews Band.
