Bruce Springsteen played an intimate, competition winners only show at SXSW in Austin, Texas last night (March 15).

Performing with his back up group, The E Street Band and a number of special guests, it was his first show since his latest album 'Wrecking Ball' went to Number One in both the UK and US.

Marking the start of Springsteen's new world tour, the show took place in The Moody Theater, and saw Springsteen delving into his hit filled back catalogue as well as playing a host of numbers from 'Wrecking Ball'.

Taking to the stage at 9.20pm, and opening with an acoustic and brass version of Woody Guthrie's 'I Aint Got No Home', Springsteen's first words were "'Happy birthday Woody" in reference to the folk legend's centennial year.

Towards the end of the set, Arcade Fire and support band The Low Anthem and Tom Morello joined the band onstage to sing Guthrie's most well know song, 'This Land Is Your Land'.

The show also featured one of the first performances from the band's late sax player Clarence Clemons' nephew, Jake, on songs such as 'Badlands' and 'Thunder Road'. Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello also came on as a guest performer, playing on 'Death To My Hometown' and 'The Ghost Of Tom Joad'.

Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff appeared to sing 'The Harder They Come' and 'Many Rivers To Cross' with Springsteen and the band.

Speaking to the crowd about Austin and SXSW, Springsteen said: "It's fucking crazy right now, its like some teenage music junkie's wet dream."

Early on in the show, he also asked the crowd: "Are we missing anyone tonight?" in reference to the late E Street Band members Clarence Clemons and Danny Federici, repeating, "If you're here and we're here, they're here."

He also played 'We Gotta Get Out of This Place' by The Animals, bringing on Eric Burdon from the band after paying homage to him in his keynote speech earlier in the day.

Bruce Springsteen played:

'I Ain't Got No Home'
'We Take Care Of Our Own'
'Wrecking Ball'
'Badlands'
'Death To My Hometown'
'My City Of Ruins'
'E Street Shuffle'

'Shackled and Drawn'
