Busta Rhymes gets three years' probation

Busta Rhymes was sentenced to three years' probation today (March 18) for assaulting a fan and his former driver.

The Grammy-winning rapper, whose real name is Trevor Smith, was given the sentence by a New York judge who warned him to stay out of trouble.

As part of his sentence, Rhymes will also have to perform 10 days of community service, pay a $1,250 fine and court costs, and participate in a drunk driving programme, reports the Associated Press.

After his sentencing, Rhymes said, "I couldn't feel better, and this couldn't have happened at a better time. I thank the judge for giving me a chance and I thank everybody for being supportive."

He added that he wanted to get back to "having fun, making music, running around and showing love."
