Calvin Harris has topped the 2013 Forbes list of the world's highest paid DJs with estimated earnings of £30m in the past year.

Harris, whose earnings were boosted by the success of his singles such as 'We Found Love' with Rihanna, earned the eight-figure sum by performing over 100 live shows, earning around £130,000 per performance. He is far ahead of the second placed Tiesto, who comes in with around £20m.

Speaking to Forbes, Harris puts his success down to good timing, saying: "The rise of dance music has been astronomical in the last three years. I happened to be in the right place at the right time." Other DJs and producers on the high earners list include David Guetta, Deadmau5, Aviccii, Swedish House Mafia and Skrillex. Highlighting club promoters' desire to put celebrities behind the decks, Jersey Shore cast member Pauly D earned the same amount as Major Lazer producer and respected DJ Diplo in the past year. Overall electronic music’s 12 top earners pulled in £172m between them over the past year.

Earlier this month Calvin Harris broke his own chart record by becoming the first artist to achieve nine top 10 singles from one album. The producer and DJ hit the milestone when his track 'Thinking About You', featuring Ayah Marar, climbed to Number Nine on the Official Chart on August 4.

All the tracks appears on '18 Months', which is the DJ and producer's third studio album and was released in October last year. Other chart-topping tracks from the album include 'I Need Your Love' featuring Ellie Goulding, 'We Found Love' featuring Rihanna and the Florence Welch collaboration 'Sweet Nothing'. The album also featured Kelis, Dizzee Rascal, Tinie Tempah and Example and has sold more than 540,000 copies in the UK since its release. It spent two weeks at Number One and has been in the top 40 Official Album Chart for 40 weeks.
