Cat Power to record next album alone
Chan Marshall to go it alone for follow-up to 'Jukebox'
Cat Power is planning to record her next album entirely on her own.
In a move harking back to her early records, the singer-songwriter, real name Chan Marshall, has said she will not use her regular backing band, The Dirty Delta Blues Band, for the follow-up to 2008's 'Jukebox'.
"Its just me this time, I’m at a point where my heart tells me, 'Chan, you haven't played piano or guitar for four or five years,' and I do have guilt about that," she told the Courier-Mail. "People ask me, 'When are you going to play by yourself?' I have problems with strange yearnings and guilt."
With her last record composed solely of covers, Marshall added that she has plenty of original songs for her next release, which would be her first album of new material since 2006's 'The Greatest'.
"Instead of 'Jukebox' I was going to put out another record. I didn't get back to those songs and I kept writing more and more," she explained. "I'm also frightened because some of them are sad again, and I feel really nervous about that."
Meanwhile Cat Power is set to tour Australia and New Zealand this January.
