Cat Power has announced plans to release a new charity single next week.

The singer took to her Twitter page to announce the track and confirm that her new album is almost finished.

She wrote:
Almost done with album. In nine days will have a song available for holiday charity download word.

Power added: "Dudes December 24. The download is for one song and video. List of charities to choose from. Donate to download."

The singer hasn't yet confirmed whether the track will feature on her new album, which she previously said she intends to play every instrument on. The record will be her first since her 2008 covers album 'Jukebox'.

"There's an inspiration in being furious that you want to achieve your goals. I think I was inspired by being disappointed in myself that I'd just been holding the microphone and I was disappointed in myself that I hadn't been playing an instrument," she explained.

"I think I wanted to prove to myself that I could try to create a relationship with it [playing an instrument] again and feel like I felt close to it. It's definitely there and it's a need [for me to play], but it hasn't been around."
