Cat Power pledges to quit America in bizarre online rant

In a rant posted to Instagram , Cat Power appears to have announced that she's leaving America due to the nation's politics.

In the post, added to the picture-sharing network alongside a photo of the statue of liberty yesterday (May 20), Cat Power, real name Chan Marshall, also suggests a new method of government for the US, proposing a tripartisan (three party) system.

The difficult-to-unpack, all-caps post criticises "the powers that be" for using the symbolism of liberty to "rape this earth with its lies, protection of wealth, and vicious slayings". The post ends with Marshall tagging 30 Twitter users, including Daft Punk, model Cara Delevingne, U2, Beyonce and TV host Ellen Degeneres. You can read the full text below.

Cat Power's post reads:

"THANK YOU FOR THE HOPE IN YOUR SYMBOLISM. BUT I HAVE TO LEAVE, AMERICA. I WILL COME BACK TO LIVE, FOR YOU, LIBERTY, WHEN THOSE POWERS THAT BE, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY IN HEARING THE MAJORITY VOICE OF THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED AMERICAN STATES AND FOR ALL WHOM CALL IT HOME, FOR EXACTLY THIS SYMBOLISM THE POWERS THAT BE, HAVE USED AS FALSE CURRENCY TO RAPE THIS EARTH WITH IT'S LIES, PROTECTION OF WEALTH, AND VICIOUS SLAYINGS & INHUMANE PRIVATE CONTRACTED MILITARIES WORLDWIDE FOR DOMINATION & COMPLETE INVALIDATION OF FREEDOM FOR WHICH THEY HAVE SO PERFECTLY STOLEN FROM ALL WHO STILL BELIEVE IN ALL THOSE SPEECHES WITHIN THE FABRIC CO-ALIGNING WITH OUR CONSTITUTION, SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE FIGHT TO KEEP FIGHTING.....ACROSS THE BOARD: TIME FOR AN NEW INDEPENDENT.
