CERYS: WE HATE 'LONDONIUM'

Catatonia's record label Blanco Y Negro have still made no response after Cerys slammed them for forcing them to release their current single 'Londinium' against their will.

Cerys Matthews said in an interview on Channel 4's Big Breakfast last week (July 23) that she would rather have released a different track off their current album 'Equally Cursed And Blessed', but that record company executives and their management had insisted on 'Londinium'.

"We wanted to release a different track," she explained, "because a lot of people think it's a negative song and I'm like, 'Well I don't want it to be a single, I just don't want it to be.'"

Catatonia also complained that the video had cost "a lot more" to make than their entire album. "It's just crazy," Matthews stormed.

The band have been mocked in some quarters for the latest song's London-hating sentiment because Matthews is frequently photographed coming out of trendy nightspots in the capital.

The band's management refused to comment on Matthews' outburst, other than to say: "We love all the album."

According to insiders, the band had planned to release 'Storm The Palace' but it was felt to be a less radio friendly song and was scrapped. 'Londinium', the second single from 'Equally Cursed And Blessed', was released on July 12 and went into the charts at Number 20.
