Channel 4 confirms ‘Homeland’ season five start date

The new season is set partly in Berlin and begins two years after events at the end of season four

Homeland will return to Channel 4 on Sunday, October 11 at 9pm, it has been confirmed.

Season five will begin in the UK just seven days after it premieres on Showtime in the US on October 4. Showtime has revealed that the new season is at least partly set in Berlin and takes place two years after events at the end of season 4.

An official plot synopsis teases: “Season five will pick up two years after Carrie Mathison’s (Claire Danes) ill-fated tenure as Islamabad station chief. Struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the ‘war on terror,’ Carrie finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working for a private security firm.”

Showrunner Alex Gansa has also revealed that Danes’ Carrie Mathison will “no longer be an intelligence officer” as season five begins. Danes, who has won two Emmys and two Golden Globes for her performance as the troubled CIA agent, will once again be joined by Mandy Patinkin as Saul Berenson and Rupert Friend as Peter Quinn.

Season five will once again comprise 12 episodes. Several real-life events will be incorporated into its storylines, Showtime’s president David Nevins has confirmed, including ISIS, Vladimir Putin, the Charlie Hebdo shooting and Edward Snowden.
