Hundreds of KFC restaurants were shut last week due to a chicken shortage
KFC is facing a new crisis following last week’s chicken shortage after the fast food chain revealed it is now running out of gravy.
The chain was forced to close more than half of its 900 UK restaurants last week when delivery problems resulted in severe chicken shortages.
Almost all of those stores are now open again, but many are operating with “reduced menus” due to continuing issues with distribution, the BBC reports. KFC recently changed its delivery contract to DHL, and the courier service has blamed “operational issues” for the disruption in supply.
A spokesperson for the chain said: “We’re working as hard as we can to get this sorted out. We know that our gravy is a big favourite!”
Twitter users have reacted to the latest plight facing KFC. One wrote: “It’s bad when KFC runs out of chicken, but it’s even worse that they run out of gravy.”
Another urged DHL to “sort it out”, saying: “Anyone would think you were in the logistics business”. Someone else added: “I can cope with -6 degrees, snow and all of that, even customers changing colours at last minute… but when I hear on the news KFC have now run low on gravy. Crisis…. not happy!”

DHL said in a statement last week: “Due to operational issues, a number of deliveries in recent days have been incomplete or delayed. We are working with our partners, KFC and QSL, to rectify the situation as a priority and apologise for any inconvenience.”
