Chris Brown remains a nominee in Kids Choice Awards
Singer still up for gongs despite alleged Rihanna assault
Chris Brown is still up for an award at the upcoming Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, despite petitions to have him disqualified.
The singer is nominated for favourite male singer and song for 'Kiss Kiss' at the event, set to take place on March 28.
An online petition currently has thousands of signatures protesting Brown’s inclusion in the categories. The nominees were announced two days before he allegedly assaulted Rihanna on February 8.
"Like all our KCA nominees, Chris Brown was nominated by kids several months ago based on his body of work as a performer, and the kids who vote will ultimately decide who wins in the category," Dan Martinsen, Nickelodeon spokesman, told the Associated Press.
As well as the online petition, Nickelodeon has received hundreds of calls asking for Brown to be removed from the nominees list.
