Chris Cornell to be honoured at benefit concert

Chris Cornell will be honoured at a Los Angeles benefit concert on May 11 for his work helping musicians with substance abuse problems.

MusiCares -- the charitable arm of the Recording Academy that hands out the Grammys -- will present Cornell with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award.

Cornell is being honoured for his support of the charity's work providing members of the music community with addiction recovery treatment, regardless of their financial situation.

The former Soundgarden and Audioslave singer is himself a recovering alcoholic, and has been very active with the charity.

Cornell is scheduled to perform at the concert, which is set to take place at the Henry Fonda Music Box Theatre in Hollywood. Also on the bill are David Gahan of Depeche Mode and Dean and Robert DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots.

Music promoter Jeff McClusky will also be honoured.

Proceeds from the concert will go toward the MusiCares MAP fund.
