CHUMBAS LET NEW SONGS LOOSE IN LONDON
The UK's favourite agit-popsters debut a host of new songs last night at nme.com webcast gig...
This show, along with a performance at the Duchess Of York in Leeds last Sunday (March 26) are the band's first UK dates since the V98 festivals in 1998.
The gig saw the band play approximately half of their forthcoming album 'WYSIWYG' ('What You See Is What You Get') which is released on April 10, through EMI.
An eyewitness told nme.com that the band premiered many new tracks, which included 'I'm With Stupid', 'I'm Coming Out', 'New York Mining Disaster 1941', 'Smart Bomb', 'Dumbing Down' and 'Jesus In Vegas'.
The band closed their main set with a chaotic version of 'Tubthumping', the track that led the band to success in 1997, before returning for two sets of encores.
For the encore, the usually bald bandmember Danbert Nobacon took to the stage wearing a wig and smoking jacket. He informed the crowd that Alice Nutter was absent from the show because she is pregnant, and is currently on maternity leave.
Following the gig, a spokesperson for Chumbawamba told nme.com that the band were hoping to line up some European festival performances, but these, and any UK dates were still unconfirmed.
