Singer to play the venue for the 60th time on 60th birthday

Cliff Richard is to play London’s Wembley Arena for the sixtieth time in his career next year.

The singer will play three nights at the venue as part of his 'Time Machine' tour, which celebrates his 50 years in music.

He has long beaten Luther Vandross’ record of playing at the venue 44 times.

In addition to his 60 headline slots, Richard has played the arena a further 14 times lower down the bill, reports BBC News.

The singer made his first appearance in 1960, when the venue was still known as the Empire Pool, as part of an NME poll winners' concert.

His first headlining show was in July 1984, when he reunited with backing band The Shadows.

He has since played 57 concerts at the venue, culminating in a five night run in November 2006.
