Club NME makes its US debut

Los Angeles gets its first taste of bands and superstar DJs
The first Club NME LA kicked off at Spacelands in Silverlake yesterday (September 7).
The night saw sets from The Grates and The Blood Arm, as Britain’s biggest indie night made its debut.
Along with the bands playing sets, several of Los Angeles’ more illustrious locals popped along to lend a hand playing records.
The Charlatans' frontman Tim Burgess put in a dancefloor filling DJ set, while The Strokes drummer Fab Moretti recruited movie star girlfriend Drew Barrymore and pal Har Mar Superstar for his go on the decks.
The New Yorker's set included tracks from Stevie Wonder to Elton John, and even’s ABBA’s ’Dancing Queen’.
“I have a new definition for rock 'n' roll,” Moretti told NME.COM of his selections. “Rock 'n' roll means making people smile and that’s what we did tonight.”
Indie 103 presents Club NME is now set to continue every Wednesday at Spaceland.
The Tyde and Japanese Motors will play on September 13, and The Presets and Fields will play the night on September 20.
Meanwhile The Kooks will play on October 25.
Club NME: L.A. costs just $3 to get in and you must be over 21.
