CMJ kicks off in New York City today (October 21)

The Whip, Little Boots, Amazing Baby help NME launch the festivities

Amazing Baby, The Whip, Johnny Foreigner, Chairlift and Little Boots are gearing up to play the Club NME parties during the 2008 CMJ music festival , which kicks off today (October 21) in New York.

Entry is free for tonight's club, which features Amazing Baby, Violens, Chairlift and Apache Beat, who will be joined onstage by Dev Hynes from Lightspeed Champion.

On Thursday (October 23) The Whip and Johnny Foreigner join Heartsrevolution, Passion Pit, Little Boots, Kuroma, Chief and Soko. Mattie Safer from The Rapture will DJ on the night, with entry at $10 (free with wristbands).

Both shows will take place at Lower East Side venue The Annex, the New York home of Club NME which takes place every Thursday.

A Place To Bury Strangers, Broken Social Scene, Cool Kids and Crystal Castles will all perform throughout the event, which showcases hundreds of acts in venues across Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Beach House, Deerhoof, Gang Gang Dance, Jay Reatard, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Lykke Li, Minus The Bear, Roisin Murphy, The Dears, They Might Be Giants, and Yo Majesty have also been unveiled to take part.

CMJ has showcased many of today’s most successful acts over its 27 years, including MGMT, The Shins, Arcade Fire, The Killers, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, REM and U2.
