Atlanta rockers set fire to instruments during festival set

Black Lips rounded off the first day of Coachella 2008 in true rock 'n roll style by setting fire to their guitars tonight (April 25).

The Atlanta garage rockers headlined the Mojave tent, and having quizzically told NME.COM earlier in the day they were using brand new instruments for the show, the promptly set them alight during closer 'Juvenile' before smashing them to pieces.

The climax appeared to land the group with a rebuke from the stage's organisers after the show, but members of the audience gratefully gathered up the torched splinters that were tossed into the crowd as souvenirs.

The set, watched by model Agyness Dyn and Har Mar Superstar who bounded onstage to dance during 'Black Kids', was among the band's biggest shows yet.

Despite going up against Jack Johnson - the group declared they weren't worried about the Hawaiian headliner - the four-piece attracted a loud hardcore group of fans to the late-night show.

Black Lips played:

'I Saw A Ghost (Lean)'
'O Katrina'
'Boomerang'
'Sea Of Blasphemy'
'Dirty Hands'
'Bad Kids'
'Cold Hands'
'Burned Alive'
'Gung Ho'
'Stranger'
'Lock And Key'
'Not A Problem'
'Fairy Stories'
'Boone'
'Juvenile'
