Coheed And Cambria have announced that their new album will be a double album, with one half coming in October this year and the second in February of next year.

The album is the follow-up to the band's 2010 record 'Year Of The Black Rainbow' and features new bassist Zach Cooper as well as drummer Josh Eppard, who has rejoined the band. The new men have replaced Michael Todd and Chris Pennie respectively.

The album, which is titled 'The Afterman', will come in two parts. The first, which is named 'The Afterman: Ascension' will be released on October 8, with the second half, which is titled 'The Afterman: Descension', set for release in February. It has been produced by Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner.

As with the band's previous releases, the albums are set within the alternative universe of Heaven's Fence and are part of a long-term story series called 'The Amory Wars'.

'The Amory Wars', which were picked up by Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson of Leverage Productions to be developed into a live-action feature film earlier this month, tell the story of the rise of superhuman dictator Wilhelm Ryan, and the one family that could hold the key to liberating the world from his tyrannical reign.

'The Afterman' itself focuses on a character named Sirius Amory, the most celebrated astronomer/scientist in the alternate universe of Heaven's Fence, who is credited with the discovery of the energy force (known as The Keywork) that binds the 78 planets of these worlds together.

Speaking about the album, frontman Claudio Sanchez said: "This is without a doubt, the most honest record I've ever written. Though all the songs can be interpreted through our main character in the story, they were initially written in a very spontaneous manner."

He continued: " “In the past, I've always had a predetermined idea of what the story was going to be when I approached the songs. With 'The Afterman' being a new story within 'The Amory Wars' arc, I allowed the events of my life to drive the concept, and therefore opened up the songwriting to a fuller degree."

You can see a trailer for the album, which depicts a cosmonaut preparing to leave his spaceship for a journey into a mysterious unknown, by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking.

Coheed And Cambria have also announced a short UK tour for November. The band will play four shows on the run, kicking off at London's Koko on November 8, before moving onto Glasgow's O2 ABC on November 9, Birmingham's O2 Academy on November 11 and finally Manchester's HMV Ritz on November 12.

They will also return to the UK later this month to play Reading And Leeds Festivals.
