After headlining arenas the world over, the band get back to their roots...
Having only months ago played to over 17,000 people at LA’s HOLLYWOOD BOWL, COLDPLAY returned to their roots last night - playing an intimate gig for just 150 punters at SYDNEY’s famous OPERA HOUSE.
The hour-long semi-acoustic set, the first in a series of performances for Australian cable channel musicMAX, took place in The Studio Room – estimated to be the smallest performance space in the building. Having been taken on a tour of the Opera House earlier in the day, the standing-room only gig prompted frontman Chris Martin to joke that the band had been relegated "to the basement".
"It was so good," said one lucky fan who managed to win tickets to the show. "It was incredibly intimate – the band seemed really happy to be there.
"There were a lot of lamps and the background was a black cloth with fairy lights all through it – it looked like stars. It was actually really beautiful. It felt like it was a really cosy little gig – it’s such a privilege to see a band like with so few people in a really special environment. It was such a unique thing."
