Coldplay: 'Jay-Z at Glastonbury best thing for the world'

Chris Martin bigs up this year's Saturday night headliner

Coldplay's Chris Martin has publicly shown his support for Glastonbury headliner Jay-Z.

[b]Martin
told Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 1 that he could not understand why people had been criticising the rapper, who is due to head up the Pyramid Stage at the bash on June 28.

"Why would we need to [play Glastonbury], considering the best musician on the planet is headlining?" he asked. "I find it pretty embarrassing, all the palaver [over Jay-Z's booking].

"We recently came back to England to find all this all this hoo-hah, grandpas complaining about things they don't know about," he continued. "Coldplay not playing and Jay-Z playing is exactly what needs to happen for the world. He's the best rapper in the world."

I love the fact that Jay-Z is playing Glats cause I feel that its time 4 people 2 step away from the old bulls**t that we call music. Evberyone deserves a chance to offer wat thet have and if people don't like, well......screw them.

It wasnt long ago that "Fiddy" Cent was on the main stage at Reading and he was hit in the head when a shower of bottles were thrown at him. Not saying this is going to happen to Jay-Z but it didnt work for Fiddy did it....

I too am pleased that Jay-Z is playing Glastonbury... I think it will be awesome.. just gutted that it seems to clash with Massive Attack.. I would prefer the 'Special Guests' to be Linkin Park however would settle for Coldplay.. :)

Chris Martin says Jay-Z is the "best musician on the planet"..... Since when was Jay-Z a musician? I have nothing against Jay-Z headlining Glastonbury. But it annoys me people think he is anything more than a guy that can rap, if anything he is the best entrepaeur in the world. NOT A MUSICIAN.

Golfman....remember though, people who go to glasto are there to actually appreciate all forms of music. They dont go to bottle and abuse acts just becuase they dont like the music. If they dont like jay z they will go to one of the other billion stages available. And anyway...you cannot compare Jay -Z with 50 Cent!! Theres a reason 50 cent was bottled off a stage....and Jay-Z is headlining the biggest festival in the world

I agree with Chris Martin on this one. For me Jay-Z's one of the few highlights of this year's line up, I'd much rather see him than one of these drab indie haircut bands that seem to be filling up most of the bill. And it's not really fair to compare this to what happened to 50 Cent seeing as 50 Cent is shit and Jay-Z isn't. I hope he gets a great reception.

I don't mind Jay-Z playing Glastonbury. It's a Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts not just Rock after all... but I won't be watching him as rap is the lowest form of music. I hope Coldplay are that Special Guest before him. Maybe they'll perform a few songs with Jay-Z and warm the crowd to him, which may be listenable.

I am not a big fan of Chris Martin, and disagree that Z is the best musician in the world, but I believe Glasters needs a hip hop headliner and Z is the best in the world. People like Yeodave need to realise that the hip pop like 50 cent they hear on the radio is not the whole story. It's like a rap kid hearing The Feeling on Radio 1 and thinking rock is the lowest form of music! Open your minds people, thats what The Mighty G is all about!
