It's a chart double for the band as album remains on top

Coldplay top the UK singles chart today (June 22) for the first time ever with 'Viva la Vida', the title track from their new album.

The album, 'Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends' remains a soaraway seller at the peak of the album chart.

It's been a week of firsts for Chris Martin and his crew. On Thursday Coldplay scored their first US number one single and also topped the US albums chart.

However, Coldplay miss out on having two singles in the UK top 10 chart as 'Violet Hill' sits at number 11.

Elsewhere on the singles chart, last week's number one 'Singin' in the Rain' by dance veterans Mint Royale falls seven places to number eight while Ne-Yo climbs to number two and Rihanna slips to three with 'Take a Bow'.

Back on the album chart, Duffy moves up to two with her debut 'Rockferry' - an album that had been the year's biggest first week seller until Coldplay appeared. New entries appear on the top 10 from Darren Styles at four with 'Skydivin'', Feeder at eight with 'Silent Cry' and Sara Bareilles at nine with 'Little Voice'.

Fleet Foxes narrowly miss on a top 10 place landing at 11 with their self-titled release.

The UK top 10 singles are:
1. Coldplay: 'Viva La Vida'
2. Ne-Yo: 'Closer'
3. Rihanna: 'Take A Bow'
4. Sara Bareilles: 'Love Song'
5. Chris Brown: 'Forever'
6. Gabriella Cilmi: 'Sweet About Me'
7. The Ting Tings: 'That's Not My Name'
8. Mint Royale: 'Singin' In The Rain'
9. Duffy: 'Warwick Avenue'
10. Jordin Sparks: 'No Air'

The charts are looking as good as usual.....Can't say that I like Coldplay but they didn't have much competition for the No.1 spot.

Congratulations to Coldplay on scoring there first ever UK Number one. It's been a long time coming, and what a fantastic song them violins are heavenly. The rest of the top 10 bar Duffy is not so heavenly.

Personally I like 'Viva La Vida' much more than the 'official' single 'Violet Hill.' Guess they will always have their detractors, but so does every band.
