Coldplay have announced that they will release special 'Mylo Xyloto' comic book for Record Store Day.

The band will put out the first issue of the comic strip alongside a 7" vinyl picture disc featuring the tracks 'Hurts Like Heaven' and 'Us Against The World (Live)' on April 20. Several issues of the book are already available on the band's website.

The series reveals the story behind the band's 2011 album 'Mylo Xyloto' and was written by Coldplay with Oscar-nominated writer and director Mark Osborne (who was behind Kung Fu Panda and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie) and will be published by Simpsons creator Matt Groening's Bongo Comics Group.

Earlier this month, Coldplay's second album 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' was named BBC Radio 2 listeners' all-time favourite album. The band's 2002 LP came top of a list of 100 albums, beating Pink Floyd's 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' and The Beatles' 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'

This year's Record Store Day will see a raft of special releases and rare tracks made available in over 200 record stores across the UK. Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Pulp, Biffy Clyro, The xx, Bat For Lashes and a host of other names are also set to put out special releases for the event. Pick up a copy of this week's NME, which will his newsstands tomorrow (April 17) and will also be available digitally for a full list.
